Infection and Burn Injury

چکیده

Burn injury is debilitating and among one of the most frequently occurring traumas. Critical care improvements have allowed for increasingly positive outcomes. However, infection, whether it be localized to site wound or systemic in nature, remains a serious cause morbidity mortality. Immune suppression predisposes burn population development invasive infections; this along with possibility inhalation puts them at significant risk Emerging multi-drug-resistant pathogens, including Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus, Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, Enterobacter, yeast spp., continue complicate clinical measures, requiring innovative therapies antimicrobial treatment. Close monitoring regimens, strict decontamination procedures, early eschar removal, adequate closure, proper nutritional maintenance, management shock resuscitation all play role mitigating infection. Novel such as ultraviolet light, cold plasma topical antiseptics must evolve order lower burden infection burn.

Flow cytometric measurement of rat lymphocyte subpopulations after burn injury and burn injury with infection.

Increased infection rates in burned patients may result from a disproportionate increase in the suppressor subpopulations. Measurement of lymphocyte subpopulations is difficult in burned patients because gradient-purified cells are contaminated by nonlymphoid cells. The accuracy of flow cytometric subpopulation analysis was improved by restricting (gating) the analysis to cells with light-scatt...

Invasive Vibrio cholerae infection following burn injury.

Vibrio cholerae is a pathogen predominantly appreciated for its potential to produce life-threatening watery diarrhea, usually without invasive disease. However, nonepidemic forms, which are present worldwide, may have a severe invasive presentation, especially among those with liver disease or other immunocompromised states. We present a case of invasive infection (pulmonary, wound, and bacter...

Acute burn injury.

Almost 2 million people in the United States suffer from burns annually. A small percentage of these injuries are fatal, but all require some degree of medical attention. Burn injury is associated with anatomic, physiologic, endocrinologic, and immunologic alterations. These problems need to be identified and treated properly to prevent or minimize the extent of the damage. In recent years, adv...

Burn wounds: infection and healing.

Early wound closure is the ultimate goal of burn care. While excisional therapy is necessary in the treatment of both large, full-thickness and deep, partial skin-thickness burns, the majority of burns are superficial partial skin-thickness injuries requiring a different clinical approach. In superficial wounds, cosmetic and functional restoration in conjunction with relief from pain and preven...
